Name: Zatanna Zatara
Age: Mid 30s
Fandom: DC Comics / Justice League
History: Zatanna was born to Giovanni Zatara and Sindella, making her a different race other than human called homo magi. Basically she's human with just a little added extra in the way of magical abilities. Growing up, she wanted to be a stage illusionist like her father until one day he disappeared. She decided to take over the family business so to speak and try to find out what happened to her father at the same time. She was doing magic shows on the stage when her abilities first manifested themselves. Thankfully she pretty much knew it was going to happen, and learned to accept it pretty quickly. Of course she still needed to find her father, and that is when she met Batman and Robin, on her search for him, though she did not realize that Batman was actually her childhood friend Bruce. Their fathers had known each other, and Bruce taught her how to escape from a pair of handcuffs. Though she is unable to find him, she finally decides to help out the Justice League on several operations until they finally make her a member.
During her time as a member, Dr. Light attacked the wife of one of her colleagues, and raped her. Zatanna decides that it is best to erase all of his memories so that he won't ever do something like that again. She'd done this before when other villains had too much knowledge about the League, but the League members were divided on whether or not she should go through with it. Though there is a tie, eventually The Flash decides that Zatanna had better do it, and so she erases Dr. Light's memories. However in the middle of it, Batman showed up and attempted to stop her, so Zee did the only thing that she could think of do it, she erased the memory of what they had done to Dr. Light, so that Bruce couldn't remember. However later on when Bruce finds out that she erased his memories, their relationship takes a turn for the worst, and he knows that he can't trust her like he used to.
After that she decided to take a break from the League. Since then she'd been helping out with other mystical threats and had time to have a rather sexual relationship with John Constantine. He taught her how to do tantra, and she still really adores the heck out of him, even if he's grumpy and crude. She also almost had a bit of a thing with Bruce, but it never really went anywhere. Once Zee also erased some parts of Catwoman's memories so that she would be a law abiding citizen, but once she found out what had happened, she pushed Zatanna out of a window. For a while she even went to a support group for superheroes. During one of those sessions she revealed that she had accidentally summoned a shapeshifter who kept killing her companions. The guilt of that along with everything else she had done, made her powers start to wane until she couldn't use them anymore. With some help though, she is able to capture the shapeshifter, and regains her powers. She uses them to defeat yet another bad guy, and because of this, she is allowed to see her father one last time.
Her father told her that his spell books that she had been searching for this entire time were inside of herself. While working with Bruce, trying to figure out who had killed one of her assistants, the bad guy turned out to be the Joker, who shot her in the throat. However, she heals herself by writing a spell in her own blood. Bruce helps her out and their friendship pretty much started over from there. Not too long ago she rejoined the League after her long hiatus as a reserve member. Just before arriving in this new place, Zatanna helped the Blue Devil find hell in order to search out the soul of her father that was supposedly trapped. However her father's soul is destroyed, and he asks her that she send him to the Abyss where he cannot be trapped any longer, even if it means his soul is completely gone. She gives in and does what he asks, and then helps to get herself and the rest to escape from hell. However the trauma from having to really kill her father has shaken her up some.
Any special abilities: Being a homo magi, Zatanna has the power of magic. Her powers are completely genetic. Generally she creates spells, most of the time by speaking or writing backwards as a tribute to her father who used to do that as well. Though she is strong enough to write spells the normal way, or even without speaking, she generally prefers to use speaking backwards as her method. This has a problem however when most villains tie her up and gag her to prevent her from doing any spells what so ever. If she cannot speak, she can write down the spell, even if it is her own blood, though blood magic is incredibly more powerful than her just speaking the spell out loud.
If she uses her powers too much, she'll become weak and unable to use them, especially with a lack of focus. The spells could then backfire or worse. It puts a strain on her physical body, and can only be stopped if she actually allows herself to get rest. She can use tarot or other divination to use the future, but she isn't terribly good with them, but has used them on more than one occasion. Some of her powers include control over elements, transmutation, manipulating minds and erasing memories, healing, and energy blasts. Once she even helped to resurrect Metropolis from ruin, along with Aquaman's help, manipulating both time and space. She can also transport herself from one place to another. Her powers are very closely tied to her confidence and self esteem.
Though she can defend herself from other magic users, it doesn't mean that she's totally vulnerable to magic. It can be used against her. If someone uses something that restricts a magic users ability, she definitely can't get around that either. She's very much a skilled illusionist that has nothing to do with her powers. She has a wonderful stage presence and loves to be on the stage, entertaining people. She's really good at sleight of hand, which makes her good for things like breaking and entering and stealing things if necessary. She also has/had a really large extensive magical library at her home.
